L to R: Peter Thome, Andy Ascher, Ross Kruger and Travis Speirs

AGR Brothers Experience the Luck of the Irish through the Ireland Study Aboard Trip
By Pete Thome (Spring 2010 Crescent Article)

January 3rd to January 20th brothers Travis Speirs, Andy Ascher, Ross Kruger, and Pete Thome traveled to Ireland with the University of Wisconsin-River Falls; they were 4 of 24 that attended this trip. While on their trip they traveled the entire country putting on nearly 1600 miles. Visiting the cities of Sneem, Cork, Galway, Belfast, and Dublin they got to see some amazing sights and drink some delicious drinks. The highlights of their trip were staying in the small town of Sneem, where the people were as friendly as can be and to par-take in Ladies Christmas on January 6th.  Visiting the University of Cork was interesting – we heard about college life in Ireland. We can all say we have kissed the Blarney Stone as we spent an afternoon at Blarney Castle. Getting to visit what is often referred to as the “eighth wonder of the world” Giant’s Causeway was an amazing sight! We finished  the trip with a pint of Guinness, a good way to end the trip as we toured the Guinness Brewery.

L to Right: Colin Langan, Walter Taylor and Will Prindle

AGR Brothers Travel to Germany for class
By Taylor, Prindle and Langan (Spring 2010 Crescent Article)

Brothers Langan, Taylor and Prindle (L to R in photo) enrolled in a spring break study aboard course. The course exposed them to the German political system and let them experience the culture. The country is very beautiful and the people were wonderful to converse with, which most people understood and were able communicate in English. They toured Berlin, Bacharach on the Rhine River, Rothenberg, Nurnberg and Munich. Some of their highlights from the trip included learning about the history of Berlin during the wars, tasting the various dishes of German foods and enjoying local brews. Of course they were interested in agriculture and came upon opportunities to converse and tour segments of Germany’s agriculture industry. They talked with a hog farmer about government regulations on the number of animals per hector and nutrient management, a landscaper/mason about various plant specimens, building castles and the history and meaning of the various bell tones and melodies that played in the villages. Also, the three received a personal tour of Fendt Tractor’s assembly line. All in all, it was an amazing trip and if any undergraduates or alumni would like to learn more about their trip, feel free to contact them. Their contact information can be found on the website under “Current Members”. Germany was wonderful country to tour and learn about world history!
